WANA (Apr 19) – The political advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran wrote in a social media post: The Iranian negotiators have headed to Rome with full authority to shape a balanced agreement.

Ali Shamkhani, in a post on his personal account on platform X, wrote: The Iranian negotiators have traveled to Rome with full authority to pursue a comprehensive agreement based on nine principles: seriousness, guarantees, balance, lifting of sanctions, rejection of the Libya/UAE model, avoiding threats, speed, containing disruptors (such as Israel), and facilitating investment.

In another part of his statement, the political advisor to the Supreme Leader emphasized: Iran is here for a balanced agreement, not surrender. He reiterated that the negotiators have full authority to shape such an agreement.

Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, along with his accompanying delegation, arrived in Rome on Saturday to participate in the second round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States.

This round of indirect Iran–U.S. talks is also being mediated by Oman.

As with the first round held last Saturday, the U.S. delegation is being led by Steve Witkoff, the special representative of President Donald Trump for West Asia affairs.

Majid Takht-Ravanchi and Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy Foreign Ministers; Esmail Baghaei, the Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson; and Behzad Saberi, advisor to Minister Araghchi, are accompanying him in these negotiations, as they did in the previous round.

This round of Iran–U.S. talks, like the previous one, is being conducted indirectly, both in written and oral formats, under the mediation of Oman’s Foreign Minister.
